Daryl Burgess is a name you’ve heard, even if you don’t realize it.
He wrote Just Came Back and Stay for Colin James - including a Juno Award for Single of the Year winner and Billboard Top Ten hit that helped define Canadian radio in the early ’90s. That success led to a long run in Nashville, where Burgess has spent decades writing and producing across country, blues, pop, and R&B.
His songs have been recorded by artists like Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, and Patty Loveless, and he’s collaborated with names including Chris Stapleton, Alanis Morissette, Kenny Rogers, and John Denver.
Now back on the West Coast, Burgess steps out from behind the credits and into the spotlight with Daryl Burgess and the Rhythm Snakes.
This show runs through the songs that built his career, along with the stories behind them - Nashville sessions, co-writes, and how these tracks actually came together. It’s direct and grounded in the craft of songwriting.
He’s backed by a deep Vancouver lineup:
Daryl Burgess - vocals, keyboards, drums, guitar
Mike Schmidt - drums
Brian Newcombe - bass
John Ellis - guitar, vocals, keys, steel
Rob Bailey - keys, pedal steel
Emilio Sanchez - cello
Tim Porter - guitar
Tom Keenlyside - tenor sax
Colin Weinmaster - trombone
Joani Bye - background vocals
Cecile Larochelle - background vocals
If you care about songs, this is a rare look at where they come from. If not, you’ll still recognize more of them than you expect.
